SMRT staff helpful in time of asthma attack

On a busy morning of 12 Mar. mdm rafidah kamsani suffered an asthma attack while travelling west-bound on the MRT. she got off at the next stop which was Outram. She was literally gasping for air despite using her inhaler.

Seeing her in this state, two SMRT officers approached and led her to the back of the station and offered her the oxygen mask. When her breathing did not improve, they immediately offered to call the ambulance but she didnt take up the offer as Outram station was only a walking distance away from SGH.

So, they accompanied her all the way through the crowd, up the escalator and waited until she could get a taxi. Even as she thanked them profusely for their help, they handed her a bottle of mineral water and told her to take care.


Opinions>
I think SMRT has done a wonderful job to keep passengers well and safe. If not for the two helpful officers, Mdm Rafidah may have lost her life if her breathing did not improve.

Kindness begets kindness and it goes a long way. Many of us nowadays are lack of kindness as we either do not care or do not have the time. If the world is filled of unkind people, there will be no one to help us in times of need. So spread the kindness today! :)

A cakeshop in Serangoon North has been fined for drying longevity noodles in the sun.

Environment officers investigated the shop following a complaint from a member of the public.The complainant also mentioned that the peach buns that were sold were not freshly-baked. Although officers found the shop hygienic and clean, the licensee occasionally dried the noodles in the sun before packing them for sale.

According to the licensee, the peach buns and longevity noodles are usually purchased for worship.
If they are purchased for consumption, the longevity noodles have to be cooked. The peach buns can be kept without refrigeration for a few days. The National Environment Agency had issued a warning not to dry the noodles in the passageway or under the sun and subsequent checks showed the warning was heeded.

However, during an inspection on Monday, NEA officers saw the licensee drying the noodles by hanging them from a stainless steel rack.NEA said since the shop-owner had been warned before, it imposed a S$100 fine for an infringement under the Food Hygiene Regulation.

NEA said it will continue to monitor and conduct surprise checks on the premises

In my opinoin, i think it is unsafe to consume foodstuff that is dried outdoors as recently, there has been H1N1 outbreak and the virus can be anywhere.

Self- Help groups 'play critical role in bad times'

Summary>

Mr Samuel Kitehper didn't do well in school, failed his primary school leaving examinations and dropped out of the Institute of Technical Education. But his life changed during his national service, when regimental sergeant major drilled in to him the importance of education.

The then second warrant officer wanted to promote Mr Kitehper to the rank of sergeant but could not as the teenager boy did not have required educational qualifications. In 2006, he went back to ITE and with the help of Singapore Indian Development Association which gave him free tuition, he brushed up on his studies and earned the most outstanding student award.

Such help is especially critical in this recession and will help Singapore survive the economic crises. That is why the government is pumping in more funds to the four self help groups: the Chinese Development Assistance Council, Mendaki, Sinda, and the Eurasian Association.

Opinions>

In my opinoin, i think education is important as during recessions and economic crises, it is hard for a degree holder to find a job, not mentioning someone without much education. It was right of the Sinda to give him free tuition as without their help, Mr Kitehper may not have brushed up on his studies.

Crimes are mostly committed by those without much education as they do not no what is right and what is wrong so, if more people in a country are educated, there will be lesser crime rate. I also think that other countries, especially poverty-stricken ones should offer free education service as most children there are home-schooled as their parents could not afford to send them to school.
